Kim & Glen Campbell Foundation Merges with Abe’s Garden Community
A note from Kim Campbell –
June 2024
Dear Friends,
It’s been an interesting few years as we, like most nonprofits and foundations, weathered both the pandemic and post-pandemic challenges. Our foundation continued to support mission-focused research through previously raised funds while also focusing on finding a great partner to launch a world-class music lab with. We wanted to do this to reflect Glen’s and my commitment to helping those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias through the power of music. After careful consideration of a all potential partners, we came back to the place Glen spent the last two years of his life: Abe’s Garden Community.
Abe’s Garden is not only a first-class facility that provided excellent care for Glen, it was also a refuge for our entire family. Additionally, I was honored to serve on their Board of Directors for several years. The planets aligned when they decided to launch a capital campaign for expansion and agreed to establish the Glen Campbell Music Lab, a groundbreaking initiative that will provide global visibility for music research, preserve Glen’s unparalleled legacy, and foster innovation in the field of music.
As our K&GC board and the team from Abe’s Garden finalized the agreement for the music lab, we also recognized the positive potential for expanding its scope by merging the branding and marketing efforts of our foundation into Abe’s Garden.
We’re excited to announce we’re shifting from an independent 501c3 foundation to the Kim &Glen Campbell Fund under Abe Garden. The K&GC Fund will be a catalyst for raising ongoing support for the Glen Campbell Music Lab, which will serve as a unique hub for researchers and music enthusiasts alike. It will provide a beautiful space for collaboration, education, and inspiration through a state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos theatre with three-dimensional sound, with the goal of pushing the boundaries of what is possible in music research. The Glen Campbell Music Lab will have an Advisory Committee comprised of esteemed experts in music, medicine research, and music industry leaders.
We continue to be grateful for your support and look forward to keeping you informed on our progress with this new venture.
Respectfully,
Kim Campbell
Kim & Glen Campbell Foundation helps the I’m Still Here Foundation create a new Music Crant Program
A note from John Zeisel –
The I’m Still Here Foundation is honored and thankful to have received a major gift from the Kim & Glen Campbell Foundation with which to establish the Campbell Innovative Music Grant Program within the I’m Still Here Foundation’s ongoing innovation grants funding program.
This effort annually provides incubator grants for innovative approaches of all sorts that provide well-being and a life worth living to persons living with dementia. The gift in Glen’s name, for which we are truly thankful, arrived just before Thanksgiving – a sign that it was meant to be. We strongly believe in the Kim & Glen Campbell Foundation’s mission that “Music is Medicine” – especially for those living with cognitive challenges. We plan to build this program to keep Glen’s memory and generous spirit alive through the many years of innovative music-related programs this gift and others that will be added to it, will enable.
Caregiving in the Time of COVID
August 14, 2020 • Nashville, TN
We can’t imagine the challenges being experienced by families caring for (or loving from a distance) someone with Alzheimer’s and dementia during the pandemic. Things like health and safety take on new meaning when managing someone who can’t understand the importance of wearing a mask or social distancing… or who is at risk for wandering. The inability of families to visit or care for their loved ones in memory care facilities is heartbreaking; connecting through windows and over Zoom doesn’t provide that human touch needed. The journey through dementia is hard enough, this virus turned that journey into a long, hard, horrible road with craters and curves that deepen the pain and frustration. It’s also a reminder that we need to stay focused on finding ways to prevent or mitigate the damage that dementia causes. Although our Foundation has been on hold (like so many in this country) in fundraising due to the onset of the disease, our efforts to identify and fund innovative research into “music as medicine” continues. Below is information about our latest collaboration.
We hold the families impacted by Alzheimer’s or another dementia in our hearts during these difficult days.
Our Newest Funding Partnership
Prior to the pandemic, our Board reviewed proposals and chose as this year’s $25,000 grant recipient, Northeastern University in Boston. Specifically, the grant will fund a multi-disciplinary collaboration led by Psyche Loui, PhD assessing neurological, genomic, and psychological effects of focused music listening among older adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). This has potential as a landmark study and includes an incredible team of researchers: Psyche Loui, PhD, Director of MIND Lab and Assistant Professor of Creativity and Creative Practice in the Department of Music, Northeaster University; Suzanne B. Hanser, EdD, MT-BC, Professor and Chair Emerita of the Music Therapy Department at Berklee College of Music; Maiya Geddes, MD, Neurologist at Brigham Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School; and Manoj Bhasin, PhD, Director of the Systems Biomedicine Lab at Emory University School of Medicine.
This research is currently under review for publication through www.frontiersin.org, and the team is pursuing other publication opportunities. It’s because of your generosity that we’re able to support groundbreaking research led by some of our nation’s leading researchers in the field of “music as medicine.” Thank you!
We Need Your Help
COVID-19 has placed a halt on our fundraising efforts. The primary source of our funding comes from our annual Glen Campbell Memorial Golf Outing. However, this year we’re unable to safely host the tournament so our funding for research could be significantly impacted. Additionally, just prior to the onset of the virus, we were pursuing exciting opportunities related to creating a world class music therapy lab that could be used for therapeutic listening, as well as global research into music as medicine. Although our efforts may be on hold during this pandemic, our mission continues.
What we hope is not on hold is your generosity!

GLEN CAMPBELL LOVED GOLF
He played in numerous Pro-Ams throughout his career and chaired his own Glen Campbell Los Angeles Open. He played whenever his schedule would allow, but no less than two rounds per week. In a letter directed to fans regarding his love of golf, he stated that he’s thrilled to be involved in tournaments that “plows whatever profits there are into worthwhile charity.” He ended the piece with, “I’m proud to have my name associated with golf.” Glen no doubt would be honored that his golf legacy continued with the 1st Annual Glen Campbell Memorial Celebrity Golf Outing.
